After growing up in Jacksonville, our CEO, Nick Padlo attended West Point and went on to serve as an Army officer in Iraq and Afghanistan. When he returned home, he built a successful career in entrepreneurship, but beneath the surface, he was struggling.
Nick began experiencing depression and anxiety, though he didn’t know what to call it at the time. Like many, he tried to manage with alcohol and other substances. At first, it was just to “take the edge off.” But over time, his mental health spiraled. Everyday tasks felt impossible. Still, he thought seeking help meant weakness. He told himself he could fix it on his own. But eventually, he couldn’t keep going. He entered residential treatment because he had no other option.
After that first stay, Nick thought he was cured. He went back to work and life. He tried a few meetings and some online therapy, but he didn’t prioritize his recovery. He relapsed. He went back to residential treatment for a second time—this time with the mindset that “nothing changes if nothing changes.”
That’s when everything shifted. Nick returned to Jacksonville and spent four months in Cambodia, immersed in mindfulness and meditation. That experience, combined with a commitment to ongoing healing, helped him stay sober.
Nick founded Sophros Recovery to give back. Today, alongside a team of dedicated doctors, therapists, and counselors, he provides people across North Florida with access to world-class outpatient addiction treatment. The team meets every client with compassion, respect, and the tailored support they need to rebuild the life they deserve.
