Our Mission

In all of our outpatient programs, we help individuals struggling with addiction and other dual diagnosis issues win their battles. Some of the issues we treat include:

  • Alcohol addiction
  • Opioid addiction
  • Meth addiction
  • Benzo addiction

In addition, those with co-occurring mental health concerns like depression, anxiety, and trauma disorders will find targeted care and support in our programs. We individualize our programs for each client’s needs and goals. Success in recovery involves healing in mind, body, and spirit, and our interventions and therapies help our clients build the skills they need. Everyone has different challenges, but we all share one thing in common: the need for serenity in our lives. We set the conditions for you to achieve your goals.

Our “Why”

After spending my childhood here in Jacksonville, I went off to West Point, later serving as an Army officer in Iraq/Afghanistan. After getting out of the Army, I began to build a successful career in entrepreneurship. Somewhere along the line, however, my personal challenges started to build. For the first time in my life, I was struggling with depression and anxiety, though I didn’t know what to call it at the time. While it started with a couple of drinks to “take the edge off,” this led to coping more and more with alcohol and other substances. Before I knew it, my mental health was spinning out of control. Tasks that used to seem easy (sending an email, brushing my teeth) became completely insurmountable obstacles. But even so, I was “Army strong,” and I thought that seeking help would mean that I was weak. If I just tried harder, I could fix the problem myself. Even if I could justify getting therapy/help, I had life and work commitments that just HAD to be attended to. There was too much to do, and I didn’t have time to stop everything. And what would people think? But trying to solve it myself did not work. My problems with alcohol, drugs, and my mental health built up—until there was no other choice but to check in to residential treatment.

After residential, I thought I was cured; I went back to my life. Occasionally, I went to a 12-step meeting and did some online therapy. But I didn’t put my recovery first, and I relapsed. In the end, I went back to residential treatment for round two. They always said “nothing changes if nothing changes,” and while I changed nothing the first time, this time I changed everything. I moved back home to Jacksonville. I spent four months studying mindfulness and meditation in Cambodia. My environment was full of supportive and uplifting people. I put my sobriety and recovery first, and this time, I stayed sober, and I made the commitment to devote the rest of my career to helping people recover from substances and mental health challenges.

My life was transformed by many months of focus on my recovery and self-care, and I am now the happiest I have ever been. We founded Sophros Recovery as a way to give back, providing support to people in the North Florida community.
